Around the Kitchen Contest Wrap-up

Around the Kitchen Contest Wrap-up

We wrapped up the Around the Kitchen quilt block contest last week! We want to say a big thank you to everyone that participated. Your projects blew us away! There is nothing better than seeing such talented people take our pattern and make it there own. Can we just tell you that picking the winners is our least favorite part? It is so hard to choose! With a little help from all of you and Blow's Sew-n-Vac we managed to do it. Here they are: The winner of the $50 Modern Textiles gift card - People's Choice Award was Jennifer Jacobson for her project entitled "Summer Evening Picnic". Inspiration for this improv piece came from a painting by my niece and my fascination with all things Martha Stewart. So this is an interpretation of an evening with twinkle lights hanging in jars from tree branches. Jennifer was kind enough to let us hang the inspiration painting as well! The $100 Modern Textiles gift card - Most Creative project went to Jean Back for her piece "Problems in my House". When my daughter was in 1st grade, the day care ladies folded paper into fourths for the kids could draw four pictures on one page. One picture she drew was titled "The Problems in our House" and included fleas, flies, frogs, and ants. As I was stitching this piece, I remembered her masterpiece. Since I had already used a few of the old problems I added a few other problems we have had in our houses since then. We were blown away by Jean's skillful stitching and attention to detail. Kerry from Blow's Sew-n-Vac joined us to choose the $200 Blow's Sew-n-Vac gift card - Best Project award, which went to Megan Sogn for her "Garden Tote" project. I am an extreme lover of all things flowers and gardening. I used paper piecing patterns to create a tote to carry along in the garden! Wow! Beautiful job Megan! But there is still much more to see! We've created a gallery of all of our amazing entries below. Just click on a picture and scroll through to see project details and the name of the artist. Thanks again to all of you that participated in our contest, voted, or just followed along online! We had a great time exploring the Around the Kitchen pattern with you. We hope you'll join us again next year for our next contest! Happy Sewing! Roxanne & Connie
