Climbing Vines Pantograph: Rockwood Quilt

Climbing Vines Pantograph: Rockwood Quilt

The Rockwood quilt pattern by The Blanket Statement is bold, fresh, and full of spring vibes—so of course, I had to pair it with my Climbing Vines pantograph. The quilt top came together using a beautiful mix of floral fat quarters, and the leafy vine motif brought the perfect touch of nature-inspired texture. I wanted this to feel like spring in quilt form—and Climbing Vines delivered.

Let’s dive into how this longarm quilting design enhances the quilt, tips for working with fat quarters, and how to book my quilting services for your next finish!

Quilting with the Climbing Vines Pantograph

The Climbing Vines pantograph has quickly become one of my favorite pantograph designs for longarm quilters. It’s elegant, flowing, and adds just enough movement to your quilt without stealing the show. Whether you’re working on a bold quilt top like Rockwood or something more minimalist, this design fits in beautifully.

It requires no offset, which makes it incredibly easy to line up row after row. And for beginner quilters, that’s a huge win! There are no sharp points to match—just smooth curves and soft waves that look amazing at any scale.

💡 Pro Tip: Load your quilt top sideways on the quilting machine so the vines climb vertically across the quilt. There’s minimal backtracking, and the overall look is so worth it.

Fat Quarters + Color Play = Spring Magic

The Rockwood quilt is perfect if you’re trying to sew from your stash—especially those gorgeous fat quarter bundles we all hoard (no shame, you’re in good company). I pulled from a mix of floral-themed fat quarters and sorted them into Fabric A and B based on the color placement in the pattern.

To keep that ombré vibe, I alternated every other fabric from my pull into the two groups. The result? A soft gradient that brings out the floral and spring themes without feeling too matchy-matchy.

I picked mine up from Stitch Supply Co, but if they’re out, Maker Valley has some stunning curated bundles right now too!

Fun Binding for a Modern Touch

In the spirit of my current "no-spend" challenge (aka, using what I’ve got instead of buying more fabric I think I need), I pulled this green-blue Bella Solids off-cut from my stash. I wish I could remember the exact color name, but I’ll update this post when it comes to me! Regardless, it was the perfect finish—bright, modern, and playful.

This kind of bold binding is one of my favorite tricks to make modern quilts stand out.

Cozy Backing = Maximum Snuggle

Backing-wise, I used the last of my 60” Fireside fabric in Pale Grey by Moda. It’s one of my go-to backing fabrics for a reason—it’s soft, washes like a dream, and hides life’s little messes (kids, dogs, spills…you get the idea).

If you haven’t tried it yet, it’s worth it for that snuggly, lived-in feel that holds up beautifully.
