Longarm Quilting Services Information

Modern Textiles offers digital edge-to-edge longarm quilting services, meaning you will have a uniform, repeating pattern throughout your entire quilt top.

My personal aesthetic leans toward modern or mid-century modern, often geometric. Once in a blue moon, I may find the perfect 70's style floral that I. MUST. HAVE.. Check out this flower shop quilt with my favorite floral panto.

Do you know exactly what you want?

Fantastic! Check out my library of pantos to select from. If I don't have what you like in my inventory currently, I'm willing to split the cost with you (most cost between $12 - $17) so that you can get exactly what you want. Do you have a picture of quilting that you want but have no idea how to find it? Email me a photo of quilting you'd like to replicate and I'll try to find the pantograph for you. Otherwise I have a list at the bottom of the page of places I get pantos from!

I have no idea where to start...

I would love to help! When you contact me via email, you have the option to have me pick the design entirely and/or make the thread choice.

Modern Textiles Panto Library

+++RATES+++

Price is by per square inch

I charge 3 cents per square inch for most of my designs. There is a section of premium designs in the panto library that are 4 cents per square inch, this is due to the complexity and density of the design - making them more labor intensive when quilting and during layout.

Example: A quilt top is 60 inches x 80 inches. 60 x 80 = 4800 x .03 = $144.

Premium Example: A quilt top is 60 inches x 80 inches. 60 x 80 = 4800 x .04 = $192.

Minimum charge

My minimum quilting charge is $50, per quilt. This means that a small quilt or table runner's square inch price will be rounded up to the $50 minimum. The minimum charge is per quilt, even if more than one quilt is sent in/dropped off. This is due to the amount of time to load up each individual quilt top.

Batting

I only stock Quilters Dream batting in the 80/20 cotton/poly blend, 100% cotton Deluxe and in the Green Dream poly.

I will order other fiber varieties of Quilters Dream batting like 100% White Poly, Dream Orient or their Wool option for you if given enough lead time.

Batting is a separate charge and is NOT included in the square inch price.

Thread

I stock Premo-Soft threads (#50 weight). I don't charge any extra fees for thread use, it's included in your square inch price.

My personal style tends to match the lightest color fabric of your quilt, if there is heavy contrast I try to select a good neutral to blend the two colors. At the end of the day, this is your quilt, so let me know if you have a preference on thread color.

Photography

Upon completion of the quilting, I will take about 1-2 photos of your quilt and then send you the images before packing your quilt up and sending it back to you. I'd just ask that you credit and tag Modern Textiles in the photo and/or quilting if posting publicly. You have no idea how happy it makes me to see you happy with your quilt!

Shipping

To me: I live in Minnesota and would be happy to receive your top and backing by mail. I'd recommend sending everything in a bag to protect against the elements during transit and then placed in a hard-sided cardboard box. (USPS Priority Mail boxes are FREE at your local post office!) Make sure the box is well taped and labeled clearly. I will use the shipping bag and box to return your quilt back to you, unless they have been damaged on the way to me.

Return shipping: I will send your quilt back to you in the manner described above via USPS Priority mail (using flat rate when possible/economical). Priority mail comes with $50 of insurance and a tracking number but please indicate on your intake form if you would like me to buy any additional insurance on your behalf. It's a great idea to insure your valuables against loss or damage while with the Postal Service, but I don't require it. Please check my FAQ page for other shipping related questions.

Other costs

As mentioned above, batting is not included in the square inch price.

Minnesota residents: I'm required by the State of Minnesota to collect sales tax on all quilting services, batting, shipping, and any design/pantograph fees.

Non-Minnesota residents: Quilting services, batting, shipping, and any design/pantograph fees are NOT subject to sales tax if outside the state of Minnesota. They are subject to use tax in by your local government.

Payment

After the work is complete, I will invoice you via QuickBooks. Once payment is received I will then ship your quilt back. Timely payments will get your quilt back in your hands ASAP!

+++PREP+++

What size should my backing be?

I require the backing to be 4" extra ON ALL SIDES. For example, if you have a quilt top that is 60" x 80", your backing should measure at least 68" x 88". It can be bigger, not smaller. Extra fees may apply if I need to put extra time and effort into getting your quilt ready to load. If you have questions, please ask!

Clean it up!

-Press your top and backing, so that it's nice and ready for me to load

-Clip stray threads or raveling fabrics as best as you can. You might not be able to get them all, but to avoid dark threads showing through your quilt top, don't skip this important step!

+++QUILTING DESIGN CHOICE+++

If your feeling overwhelmed right now, just reach out! You have the option of having me make the quilting decisions for you. It all depends on your purpose for the quilt. This quilt will be something treasured for years to come. Click the button at the top to get started.

Do your research!

Do I not offer the panto you have in your mind? Take a look at any of these websites below. Search the terms pantograph or edge-to-edge (E2E) to find the right type of designs. As I've stated above, I'll split the cost of the panto 50/50 if you find the one!
