Four New Books You Can't Miss

Four New Books You Can't Miss

There's just something about a new book, isn't there?

One of our goals when we attend Quilt Market is to find the best in new books and patterns. It's one of the few chances we have to actually dig in and check these things out before we purchase them for the shop. We work hard to bring you only the best and only buy the items we truly love and want to use ourselves! We are excited to tell you that we found some really good new titles that we can't wait to dive into. Here's a little info about each one.

By The Bundle, by Emma Jean Jansen

Turn Precuts into Patchwork with 12 Fat Quarter Friendly Quilts

We love that all the projects in this book are based on fat quarters! We love a good fat quarter bundle as much as you do, but it's sometimes hard to break into it without a great plan. By The Bundle has great inspiration for doing just that. "With Emma’s guidance you’ll learn how to cut your fat quarters to maximize usable fabric. She also shares her tips on how to combine your bundle fabrics with crisp solids to achieve maximum contrast. Photographed within sweeping Australian vistas, the quilts are so refreshing that you’ll want to sew all 12 of them!" We have big plans to make this quilt with a fat quarter stack of Maribel, coming in August but available for pre-order here! It's going to be beautiful!

The Quilt Cookbook by Amy Gibson

50 Block recipes, 7 sampler quilts, endless possibilities.

I'm trying to expand my quilting skills this year, so a book like this really grabs my attention. I love the idea of learning new blocks and the techniques to create them, while still be able to "design" my own quilt. We are seriously contemplating using this book for a Block of the Month. Wouldn't that be fun?! The book is designed like a cookbook in that each block has it's own recipe. The photos are absolutely stunning and definitely draw you in from the first page. "Quilt Blocks are our Friday night fix, our one-at-a-time victories, our miniature masterpieces. Use classic 'ingredients' like half-square triangles and flying geese, add your favorite fabrics and mix them into 50 new and unique 12'' blocks from Amy Gibson. Dig right into the block recipes and bring them to life in Amy's 7 innovative modern sampler patterns, or use the blocks in creative combinations to cook up your own dynamic quilt designs." The blocks in this book are great way to just play a little in between bigger projects.

Scraps, Inc. Volume 2, Compiled by Susanne Woods

15 Scrap pieced designs for the modern quilter.

We dare say Volume 2 of Scraps, Inc. is even better than the first! As we paged through the book we oohed and awed over every page. The book is a compilation of projects from 15 different contributors, many of which you've probably heard of. "Create 15 stunning scrappy quilts using a variety of techniques, from curves, to triangles and from strips to squares. Carefully collected and constructed based on a common mood board of trendy, soft, spring-time blues, creams, pinks (and even metallics!), each of the 15 contributors has created a design that focuses on using those impulse-purchased fat quarters or all of the beloved scraps you have left over from sewing previous quilts. Each will stretch your creative skills whether you like quilts with a minimalist feel or with a plethora of piecing, there is a pattern sure to please in this book." Time to dig out those colorful scraps and put them to good use! Imagine making an entire quilt from things someone else might have thrown away!! Stop in to browse through each of these books in person! Books are pictured with fabric from Boo Collection, Cotton + Steels' latest Halloween designs. Oh that's right ...we said FOUR new books didn't we?! We are saving our favorite for last!! Watch the blog next week for a full review of Beyond Cotton.
