Summer has been wild over here — the kids are home, and their newfound talent for collecting all the things has turned our home into a borderline treasure trove (aka, hoarder’s paradise). After stepping on a handful of their “finds,” I decided it was time for a fast and functional sewing solution. Enter: the 3-in-1 Zipper Pouch Pattern – a fun, beginner-friendly sewing project that’s modern, useful, and scrap-busting in the best way.

✂️ Why You’ll Love This Modern Zipper Pouch Pattern
This isn’t just your average pouch – it’s three styles in one! Designed with the modern sewist in mind, the 3-in-1 Zipper Pouch Pattern is perfect for:
- Organizing kids’ collectibles, makeup, sewing notions, or tech accessories
- Using up your favorite fabric scraps
- Practicing quilting techniques on a small scale
- Gifting something handmade, fast
Whether you're a confident beginner or just want a quick sewing project with a modern vibe, this pouch is for you.
🧵 Fabrics I Used (And Loved)
I've been sewing up a storm with Ruby Star Society fabrics, and these pouches gave me the perfect excuse to dive into my scrap bin.
Pencil Pocket Pouch:
- Exterior: Bella Solid in Passion Fruit + Bird is the Word floral
- Lining: Phosphor by Libs Elliott
Quilted Zipper Pouch:
- Exterior: Starry Mini Charms + grey canvas (leftover from the Quilted Dinghy)
- Interior: Fat eighth from the Honey Collection
Two Small Pouches:
- Fabric: Teddy and the Bears + additional Honey Collection scraps
- Lining: Fat eighth from the Creativity Shell

🧵 Zippers with Style
One of my favorite parts of pouch-making? Choosing the zippers. I always look for contrast that complements the fabric:
- Pencil Pouch: A hint of red makes it pop
- Teddy & Bears Pouch: Loved the green zipper combo
- Honey Pouch: Blue zipper aligns perfectly with Blue Ribbon tones
- Quilted Pouch: I used a striped zipper by the yard from Stitch Supply — Ann’s selection of hardware is top-tier!
✨ Quilting Details
This quilted zipper pouch was small enough to stitch on my domestic Juki. I opted for clean, straight-line quilting to give it texture:
- Mini Charms: ½” horizontal lines
- Canvas: 1” tall lines
- Final section: 1” wide vertical lines
- Stitch length: 4.0 for a bold, modern finish
It’s amazing how just a bit of quilting can take your DIY zipper pouch from basic to boutique.
🧵 Want Me to Quilt Your Bag Panels?
While this project didn’t require longarm quilting, I do offer professional quilting services for things like quilted bags, totes, and full-size quilts. A great option is sending in 1½ yards of your exterior fabric + slightly more lining — perfect for getting the most out of Annie’s Soft and Stable (which I’m considering carrying in the shop!).
✨ Check out my longarm quilting services here — and feel free to email with questions about quilting or pantograph designs.
