I’ve been itching to make a neon-inspired Beach quilt, and what better way to amp things up than with one of my original pantograph designs—Static Shock? Pairing it with the Sugar fabric by Ruby Star Society just made so much sense. Throw in some neon variegated thread, and wow, this quilt is straight-up electric ⚡️
I know neon and black isn’t everyone’s jam, but if you’re after bold modern quilt patterns, this one’s got personality for days. Let’s chat about the Static Shock pantograph, the vibe of the Sugar Beach quilt, and how you can grab this design (or have me quilt it for you!).

Quilting with the Static Shock Pantograph
Lightning bolt quilting designs are just fun. Static Shock brings out some serious throwback energy for me—think blasting punk-rock music and doodling on your binder in class. That edgy vibe is what I was channeling when I created this longarm quilting design.
This panto is:
- Beginner-friendly ✅
- No backtracking ✅
- No offset alignment needed ✅
So if you’re just getting into pantograph designs for longarm quilters, Static Shock is a great one to try. It adds movement and a little bit of edge without being overly complex. And yes—it’s just as cool stitched out in bright, wild thread as it is in neutrals!

Ruby Star Society's Sugar Fabric
Okay—can we talk about Sugar by Sarah Watts for a sec? We all went hard trying to make Starry a basic, but honestly? Sugar deserves that same spotlight. It’s soft, speckled, and has just enough somethin'-somethin' to make you do a double-take.
If you see this fabric in a shop—grab it. It’s no longer being printed, and it pairs perfectly with so many modern quilts. For this Beach quilt, it gave the exact amount of pop I was craving.

Pop of Color in the Binding
Once I saw how the citrine color popped in those quarter square triangles, I knew I had to carry it into the binding. And I’m so glad I did. It pulls everything together in the most satisfying way.
Pro tip: if you’ve got leftover feature fabric like I did with Sugar, using it for your binding is a great way to tie your quilt pattern designs together in a polished, modern way.
Unexpected Backing = Extra Wow
For the backing, I went with a bold 108” turquoise wideback from Ruby Star Society. I love when a quilt back doesn’t just sit quietly in the background—and this one definitely holds its own. The cool turquoise tone plays off the citrine beautifully, and the whole quilt just feels alive.
