Introducing the Beach Quilt Pattern
Inspiration
The Beach Quilt Pattern is a block based quilt pattern with strip pieced borders to mimic the look of a beach towel - but one big enough for the whole family!
As a family we always gravitate towards using one quilt for certain task or outing. During the summer months in northern Minnesota we spend many days at the beach that's walking distance from our house and I realized we didn't have a "Beach Quilt". You know that quilt that everyone knows exactly what your talking about when you say "grab the beach quilt!"
If you can't tell from most of the Modern Textiles, we love a simple, clean looking quilt that comes together in a flash. Something that new beginners can tackle confidently but something that is pleasing to the eye for an advanced sewist as well.
The Beach Quilt is a beautiful pattern that brings the Quarter Square Triangle block and mixes it with the Corner Triangle Block to make a cohesive look of a beach blanket.
Options
There is plenty of negative space in the quilt to play around with the quilting design or for straight line quilting to add loads of texture! For this Beach Quilt I selected the Hot Cross Buns pantograph and utilized the long arm.
Did you know that I'm a long-arm quilter for hire? Check out more information on that here.
Along with the negative space to place with, you can utilize half yard pre-cuts for the throw size and larger quilts. The half yard pre-cuts will replace the yardage you need for the triangle and accent color fabric.
Maybe you have plenty of scraps to play with? You can always bust through those on the Beach quilt when paired with a good background material to pull it all together.
Fabric
The fabric I used for this Beach Quilt are all Bella solids: Off White, Saffron, Melon and Persimmon. The binding fabric is Bella Solids Saffron and the backing is surprisingly from Joann's! My local quilt shop was closed and I didn't have 4 yards of any fabric that would look good with the front. So sushi it was!
