I have the Quilty Love Palette Picks version of the Alt Current Quilt to show you today. This is a good intermediate quilt or advanced beginner for all those Half Square Triangles you need to trim and create. This quilt is geared towards using Fat Quarters for that scrappy background, which is only friendly for the two-at-a-time half square triangle method. Inspiration
November is Epilepsy Awareness month? Alt Current is the first pattern in the electrical quilt series. Did you know 10 percent of the population has some form of epilepsy? If you don’t know anyone with epilepsy – well now you do. My neurologist describes seizures as a short circuit of the brain, combine that with my career in construction and “alternating current” was a great place to start the electrical quilt series. I’ve been lucky enough to have an extremely manageable case of epilepsy. As a “lucky” member of this population, I feel the need to pay it forward to those that don’t have it as easy as I do. 10% of all profits from the Alt Current Quilt Pattern sales goes to the Epilepsy Foundation.
Robert Kaufman's Quilty Love Palette Picks Fat Quarter Bundle
I always try to make one of my sample quilts in a solids version - but we all know the difficulty of purchasing fabric online. The color never seems to perfectly transfer from screen to what's in person. So why not let a designer do the picking? Robert Kaufman has a line of Palette Picks that are curated by different designers in the industry. It's the perfect solution to the buying online problem! I always love Emily's eye for colors, especially her rainbow quilts, so I knew this bundle would be perfect! The white is a Bella Solids off white, which is my standard go to white from Moda.
Binding
I was using Grey Speckled fabric for the background of a lot of quilts. I would then convert any of the trimmings into binding fabric so it was ready to use ASAP! We'll that pile of grey speckled fabric started to be overwhelming and I decided with the lovely tones of the quilt top that having a grey binding would be a subtle addition to this quilt.

Backing
Did you know that I now carry Speckled Widebacks? For this Alt Current quilt I went with the White Speckled fabric and love how it turned out! I found myself using these wide backs for most of my quilts and thought, why not bring them on for sale. If you are using me for quilting services, you no longer need to worry about waiting for your backing fabric to show up in the mail! Just send you finished quilt top and you can buy batting and backing fabric from me :)
Quilting
With this being such a calm quilt, the colors are really soothing to the eye. I knew that the quilting needed to enhance the soothing nature of the fabrics but add a little movement to the design of the quilt top. Queue Twist Tie, one of my own designs that you can grab in the shop here. This pantograph is by far one of my most popular designs!
